McGrath among grant recipients in CSRA funding
The Community Foundation of the CSRA distributed over 611000 in grants to Aiken area groups including Aiken Center for the Arts Aiken Augusta Swim League Aiken Music Festival Joye in Aiken Golden Harvest Hitchcock Healthcare Public Education Partners USC Aiken and McGrath Computer Learning Center. Volunteers led the McGrath effort with support from USC Aiken donors to expand computing classes and technology offerings for the community.

Melter 2 at Savannah River Site to be replaced after 14 years
Melter 2 at the Defense Waste Processing Facility is being replaced following a heater failure on February 1. The unit has operated since 2003, producing 2,819 canisters and surpassing its design life. Melter 3 is ready to install, with about six months needed for the upgrade and no public or worker risk during replacement.

Forest Service honors resilient volunteers in 2016 awards
The U S Forest Service in November recognized employees and partners in the Southern Region at the 2016 Regional Forester's Honor Awards with the theme Resilient People, Resilient Forests. Savannah River timber crew won One Region, One Team, One Approach. Aiken Sertoma Club earned the Volunteer Program Award for long running meals at the Ultimate Turkey Hunt fundraiser.
