Flux shutdown eyed four year plan hits 1000 jobs
The plan to close Flux over four years would cost 1,000 jobs at Hanford, which already shed about 2,000 in two years amid plutonium work for nuclear weapons. Flux began in 1982 as a prototype for the Clinch River breeder reactor program after Congress halted that project. At Hanford, a test reactor has been in operation handling reactor parts tests, medical isotope production, and other duties. Fast flux describes the reactor core neutron speed affecting fuel production.

Tele phone survey of Aiken County registered voters
A telephone survey of 424 registered voters in Aiken County used stratified sampling by telephone exchange to cover all county areas. Each number was dialed at least four times at different hours, and the most recent birthday within households determined the respondent. The response rate reached 78 percent with a sampling error of 4.8 percent. The USCA Survey Research Service conducted the study with students, and data collection ran from early November to three weeks later in 1989.
