Belfast reports its bloodiest weekend of guerrilla strife with ten dead. A man killed at a gas station died in hospital, while six Catholics were fatally shot by British troops who claim the victims were IRA gunmen. Catholic leaders demand inquiry into the shootings.
Election Commission Chairman Eugene England said this morning that 6 000 to 7 000 voters or about 16 percent are expected to vote in the school board election despite good weather.

An Aiken man Walter Spann was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill after his wife Delores Spann was shot in the neck with a 32 caliber pistol. The case, investigated by Sgt. Whitecotton and Officer Yount, lists 112 Edgefield Avenue as the Spann address.
Rep. William Jennings Bryan Dorn of South Carolina pledged that Congress will not let economy or itinerant agitators dismantle the national water resources program. He warned against delaying development through costly lawsuits and vows to limit actions of traveling agitators.
