South Carolina Lands $4.2 Billion in 2015 Investments
The South Carolina Department of Commerce said 150 capital investment projects recruited in 2015 will create more than 17,000 jobs. Manufacturing accounted for $3.6 billion of the total, with Volvo and Mercedes-Benz leading the way in the Lowcountry. Service jobs and rural-focused hiring also drove growth as existing firms added 9,800 positions. Volvo’s Berkeley County plant aims to hire about 2,000 over the next decade.

Mammoth myth debunked by Yale DNA at 1951 Explorers Club dinner

Delay in Meek trial in Charleston church shootings case
U S District Judge Richard Gergel granted a defense request to push back the trial of Joey Meek, friend of Dylann Roof, at least until May to review evidence. Roof faces nine murder charges in state court and federal hate crime counts. A status hearing for both federal cases is planned next week. Also in Columbia, the South Carolina Legislature takes an Easter break with the House to furlough two additional weeks, delaying sessions around the Feb. 20 presidential primary.
