Reagan proposal boosts salaries across the government with new pay scales. Senators and representatives rise from 77 400 to 89 500 a 15 6 percent gain. Cabinet secretaries and agency heads see 12 5 percent increases. Officials at many levels gain about 8 to 16 percent, with several positions exceeding 100 000 in annual pay.
Mrs. Joe Branch of Smithdale Miss receives the Bronze Star posthumously awarded to 1st Lt Joseph E McNair of Summit Miss for heroic acts on a Japanese prisoner ship during World War II. The medal was presented by Army Capt Louise Terrell after it lay unclaimed since 1946.
