SCDOT says South Carolina roads need a decade to recover
The SC Department of Transportation reports deteriorating highways with about 28 billion needed over 25 years to bring the system to good condition. Laws in 2013 and last year authorize roughly 5 billion in highway work over the next decade, funded partly by borrowing, but 400 bridges remain structurally deficient and only 4 percent of annual system needs are covered.
