Deputies arrested Dwayne A. Butler and Matthew Butler Jr. after a December Bath armed robbery. Dwayne Butler, 23, is charged with three counts of armed robbery and weapon possession. Matthew Butler Jr., 25, faces three counts of armed robbery. The duo surrendered without incident following a tip.
Nina Vidal led Byrd Elementary students in a lunch hour drive to aid the Red Cross relief for Haiti. Bags held five ten and twenty dollar bills with some families sending checks, coordinated by Linda Redd and Red Cross volunteers.
Four Cats in the Doghouse, a new jazz quartet, performs Thursdays 6 to 8 p.m. at The Willcox in Aiken. Members Scott Ferguson, George Sykes, Bud Pabst, and David Brown play standards from the 50s and 60s in a listening venue with a fireplace ambiance.
Aiken High School sophomore Gray Johnson organized school-supplies donations for the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club after noticing lacked folders and materials during tutoring visits. Funds and boxes came from Dr. Fred Andrea, First Baptist Church youth group, and families, with ongoing volunteer plans announced by club and school staff.
The Nancy Moore Thurmond Boys and Girls Club hosts a Steak n Derby fundraiser at USC Aiken Convocation Center on Thursday Feb 18 at 6 pm. Richard C. Davis of Trademark Properties is keynote for Salvation Army appeals. Outback Steakhouse provides dinner. Sponsorships range from 250 to 3000 dollars with a $50 Friendship option.
