A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine argues that virtually all asthma attacks are allergy driven across ages, based on IgE measurements in 2.09 individuals. House Speaker Jim Wright said the House would vote next week to cut the 50 percent pay raise to 0 or 30 percent and to ban honoraria. If enacted, most salaries would rise to about 116 350 dollars with the ban on honoraria affecting top earners. The Senate planned a vote as well with expectations to reject the 50 percent increase.
Westinghouse Savannah River Co officials say initial indications show most Savannah River Plant employees will stay when Westinghouse replaces Du Pont as SRP contractor on April 1. About 5,000 forms were returned with 98 percent choosing to stay, as SRP employs roughly 16,700 people, the state’s largest employer. Du Pont expects about 900 retirements by March 31, with many retirees to be rehired by Westinghouse Bechtel Savannah River Co. noted a surge of about 150 new hires in the transition.
The Aiken County Board of Education voted 7-1 to approve Dr. Joseph R. Brooks's realignment plan, extending his contract by two years. Changes include elimination of Dr. Morton’s post, reassignment of Dr. Bradley to Executive Director of Program Evaluation, Research and Personnel, and shifts across Areas 1 2 3 and 4 with new and moved district posts.
