Local industries including Owens-Corning Fiberglas and Federal Pacific Electric report ongoing gas curtailments. Owens-Corning has about 900 workers idled while managers say no new developments. United Merchants and Manufacturing also notes no near term changes in gas supply.

Washington AP report says congressional leaders seek final passage of President Carter’s emergency natural gas bill before his fireside chat tonight. The House and Senate had each passed their versions, a conference panel resolved differences, and both chambers were queued to approve the compromise bill. Carter was to address the energy crisis in a national broadcast.
Federal officials are shaping an emergency natural gas allocation mechanism under President Carter. They expect shifts of supply from states west of the Mississippi to the East, with delivery taking days as gas moves about 15 miles per hour through interstate pipelines. No interstate line has surplus gas to draw on.
