Aiken County coroner searches for the family of a 72 year old man struck and killed by a car on U S 1 in North Augusta Monday night near the Georgia border. Authorities withheld the name until next of kin is notified. Police seek information at 642 1740.
A 65 acre shopping complex is planned on the north side of Aiken at University Park Way and Richland Avenue on the former Kmart and Bi-Lo sites. Land broker Ronny Bolton says the project will feature softer architecture, landscaping and signage with formal retailer announcements expected in March. The plan includes razing all existing buildings except the SRP Federal Credit Union branch and may incorporate several tracts behind the current properties.
Norfolk Southern will move a section of track and reroute Main Street in Graniteville as part of a public private initiative with Avondale Mills and state agencies to enhance safety at railroad crossings.
