York farmer proves nitrate fertilizer boosts corn yield
Claude Smith in South Carolina ran a five acre corn demonstration with 200 pounds per acre of nitrate of soda as a side dressing. The check plot yielded 10.5 bushels per acre while the rest averaged 39 bushels, a 28.5 bushel gain. Side dressing grossed about 23.23 per acre over cost, rotation included soybean vines turned under for soil improvement.
