Authorities say they will not charge a 15 year old with murder in the Christmas Day shooting of 12 year old Westley Archer. The death was a single bullet wound to the collarbone and is considered likely accidental. Officials will pursue involuntary manslaughter instead and will not seek adult prosecution.

Aiken County Schools reorganizes after retirement of assistant superintendent Dr James Green. Superintendent Dr Linda Eldridge says six district staff will take on more duties from Jan 1, with one AS superintendent position cut and replaced by two tech support staff.

The PSC approved a 7.5 percent rate increase for SCE&G, raising monthly bills by about 5.50 to fund the Cope coal plant in Orangeburg County. The $67.5 million hike affects 476,000 customers across 24 counties, with summer bills rising from 76.37 to 81.14 and 81.89, and winter costs from 73.72 to 78.50 and 79.25. The decision came amid objections from two commissioners and follows prior increases to finance part of Cope’s construction.
Two armed robberies at gas stations in North Augusta early today led to one arrest. At Smile Gas Station 1132 West Martin Town Road, two Black men 18 to 20, about 5 feet 6 inches, 130 pounds, burgundy sweat suits, robbed the clerk and fled in a white Chevrolet Chevette with a third suspect wearing a white hooded sweatshirt. a three carat heart shaped engagement ring was taken. The investigation continues with all three suspects described as Black males.
Three sheriff offices Aiken Columbia and Richmond announce a joint multi jurisdictional task force to curb cross border crime. The group expanded on Sept 1 to extend deputy powers and focus on mobile criminal networks. It aided investigations into two recent murders and an armed robbery attempt.
