The Savannah River Site opens its gates for residents to tour and learn about its history and current missions. Registration is open for the SRS 2016 public tour program with more than 1,000 seats across 22 tours managed by SRNS for the Savannah River Operations Office. Tours travel by large buses and show facilities tied to plutonium and tritium production during the Cold War. Tour dates include January 14 and 22, February 11 and 17, March 10 and 31, April 7 and 27, May 12 and 26, June 16 and 23, with July 14 and 28 for the second half of the year.
Tours begin at 12 30 p m at the Aiken County Applied Research Center on Gateway Drive near New Ellenton for dates through the year July August September October November and December with tours limited to 50 participants ages 18 plus who are U S citizens.
