Family of slain Master Public Safety Officer Scotty Richardson will receive visitors today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Shellhouse Rivers Funeral Home 715 E Pine Log Rd. A prayer vigil at Aiken Public Safety 251 Laurens St also runs 5 to 8 p.m. Interment at Historic Bethany Cemetery follows noon Tuesday at USC Aiken Convocation Center 375 Robert Bell Pkwy.

Retreat gives sanctuary for military and families
At Camp Gravatt in Aiken County a Christmas weekend retreat offers soldiers and airmen and their families a place to reconnect. The program, run by the WTB, invites any service members with no home for the holiday to join for five days and nights. Donors and volunteers funded meals, housing, and activities as families shared time together and found support and renewal.

New USS citizen celebrates chance to see daughters
Aiken resident Josie Rushton received U.S. citizenship on December 15 and plans to visit her daughters in the Philippines. Born in the Philippines, she left in 1988 and returned for a visit eight years later, then spent years supporting her family abroad. She ran Josie’s Pork Rolls at Davor’s Cafe and has long held a U.S. work visa, marrying in 1999. Community members celebrated with an American flag flown over the Capitol and a certificate.
