Program helps people earn their GED in South Carolina
Maria Blizzard, Honduran migrant worker, joined 25 students who graduated from the University of South Carolina High School Equivalency Program. The program offers Spanish classes, personalized help, and emotional support to Hispanics from migrant farming backgrounds, ages 18 to 65, many who did not finish school. Blizzard aims to become a radiologist, saying the program opened a door she never imagined. In Anderson, an anonymous donor gave 2500 to replace five red kettles stolen from the Salvation Army, relieving a bloated fundraising effort and aiding bell ringers who had worked long hours.
