Two Guards Assaulted By Jail Prisoners

Two Charleston jail guards were hospitalized after being beaten by inmates during a Christmas Day incident at the Charleston County Detention Center. Officer Wayne Reeves remained in good condition at Medical University Hospital, while Officer Fred Stevens was treated and released from Roper Hospital. Two inmates, Clark J. Porcher and Theodore R. Givens, have been charged with two counts each of aggravated assault.

DOE says $22 million spent on radiation experiment research worth it

Cincinnati is told by a Department of Energy spokeswoman that more than 22 million dollars spent in the last two years researching Cold War human radiation experiments was a reasonable price to pay for truth. The figure includes 6.2 million by the Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments.

Holiday Weekend Tragic Claims Two Lives In Aiken County

Holiday weekend accidents in South Carolina claimed two Aiken County men. Houston Loveless, 25, died after his car struck a tree on Secondary Road 79 in Aiken, and Frank Henry Brown, 76, died when his car hit a tree on U.S. 278 in Barnwell. A Langley home fire destroyed a family's house after a toppled Christmas tree caused the blaze. Two injured victims were treated at Medical College of Georgia.
