Blizzard Pounds Coastal North Carolina With Record Snow
Coastal North Carolina towns from Little River Inlet to the Outer Banks endured 10 to 15 inches of snow as near hurricane force winds battered the coast. The blizzard toppled power lines, left hundreds without heat and water, caused water shortages, and led to at least one death. Three cottages were washed away at Kitty Hawk and a 600 foot Navy tanker ran aground after lines to a tug broke amid the storm.
