The Soviet Union launched space laboratory Salyut 4 into orbit today as Tass announced. No crew is planned for boarding the station. the launch aims to test design systems and conduct scientific experiments in space flight conditions.
Saigon reports the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong captured Don Luan 55 miles north of Saigon and Tanh Linh 70 miles northeast, marking the fourth and fifth district towns seized since Dec. 6 as major strikes escalate. The loss follows the downing of a C130 transport on a supply mission and 37 rockets fired into Bien Hoa air base, deepening the toll since the cease fire nearly two years ago.
A Czech Canadian, Josef Homolov, 31, was arrested at Fiumicino airport after hijacking an Air India jumbo jet and threatening to crash it into Rome on Christmas Day. The crew overpowered him in the cockpit and the 154 passengers remained unaware during two hours of circling.
