Eight C-17 Jets Placed In Backup Status At Charleston
Air Force places eight C-17s at Joint Base Charleston in reserve as a cost saving measure under President Obama’s defense budget. Jets will not have crews or flying hours assigned but will receive funding to sustain the system. Eight additional aircraft in Washington state also go to backup status. Major Gen. Michael S. Stough notes 16 jets could join Air National Guard later.
