An 11 year old Wagener resident Michael Stone aged 11 was struck by a southbound car on U S 39 at noon Thursday after stepping into the path of the vehicle. He was airlifted to Orangeburg Hospital and pronounced dead at 1 23 p m per Deputy Coroner Ell Rearden.
Augusta actress Butterfly McQueen died at 84 from burns after kerosene heater fire lit her clothes. She suffered second and third degree burns over seventy percent of her body and was taken to Augusta Regional Medical Center. The one bedroom cottage where she lived was destroyed. A separate federal case saw Steven Rosen of BC Services plead guilty to bank and credit card fraud tied to a phone sex operation.
