Salvation Army Cheer Fund Reaches $15779 Goal Nears

Christmas Cheer Fund in Aiken County has raised $15,579.36 of its $22,000 goal. Donors contributed $1,353.61. The Valley Empty Stocking Fund reports $9,036.26 raised with $2,734.97 contributed this year for needy families children and seniors.

Unprovoked Attack Baffles Victim and Husband at Six Points Store

Bonnie Metts and her husband Richard describe a midnight assault at a Six Points Kwik Shop. Bonnie sustained throat injuries, was treated locally, then moved to a Augusta hospital before a Sunday release after surgery. They pursued three Black men in a light yellow car, memorizing a license number that did not match later reports. Local authorities probe with several suspects but no arrests yet. a reward may be issued.

Inflation climbs 1 percent in November amid higher food housing gas

U S government data show consumer prices up 1 percent in November lifting the annual rate to 12.5 percent. Food housing and gasoline posted sizable gains while real spendable income rose 0.2 percent and weekly earnings fell 5.1 percent after taxes.

A 13-university Southeast alliance approved a plan for a national facility to study the atomic nucleus. The roughly $120 million electron accelerator proposal, to be funded by NSF and DOE, lacks a site and would be open to scientists nationwide. USC and LSU are expected to join.

Elaborate Christmas Yard Delights Draw Crowds in Aiken

For 14 years Lynn H Brumit decorated his 1403 Alpine Road lawn with 1400 blue lights a lighted manger scene Santa Claus carolers and a handmade 22 year old Santa and reindeer. His son Tim helped this year as Brumit battles heart health keeping him from decorating. Citizens and a Denmark church group have seen crowds and traffic to view the display while Brumit recalls the true meaning of Christmas.
