Mine workers approve contract to resume coal production

CHARLESTON W V A AP Mine construction workers accepted a new contract with the Association of Bituminous Contractors by about a two to one margin. The agreement clears the way for a return to full production in the coalfields with workers set to be back on the job at 12 01 a m today. Picketing by 4400 construction workers idled about half of the United Mine Workers 120000 soft coal miners since the miners accepted a three year pact on December 6.

Old Treaty May Have Rewards

In Lincoln Nebraska AP testimony at a US District Court hearing on an 1868 treaty between the Sioux and the federal government raised Manifest Destiny ideas. Six persons convicted for crimes from the 1973 Wounded Knee occupation argue the treaty remains valid making the Sioux a sovereign nation with no federal jurisdiction. If upheld, other litigation could arise over reparations or former lands and about fifty Wounded Knee cases may be dismissed.

Ford vows no misuse of CIA domestic spying

President Ford states he will not tolerate illegal CIA domestic spying and has been assured the agency is not involved in such activities now. He cited a briefing by CIA Director William Colby who said nothing comparable to Nixon era surveillance is ongoing, as Ford spoke in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Kuchel faults UN actions at session and Arafat invite

Robbery at South Aiken market leaves owner wounded

P T Scott 54 of College Acres was shot in the stomach by three assailants who robbed his Scott's Curb Market on Silver Bluff Road of about 500 dollars in cash and checks. He is listed in satisfactory condition at University Hospital in Augusta. No arrests yet. A separate Majik Market hold up in Clearwater netted 449 dollars.
