Jobless rate steady in November in South Carolina
South Carolina unemployment stayed at 6.6 percent in November, aided by seasonal holiday hiring in retail. Allendale County posted the highest rate at 12.2 percent, Beaufort County the lowest at 4.1 percent, while government, education and health services added jobs and leisure and hospitality fell by 2,100.

Explosion at Upstate chemical plant injures none
Upstate Carolina Polymers Plant suffered a minor blast and wall panel damage on Thursday. Fire Chief Baker said evacuation was brief and the building was deemed safe after about 90 minutes. A past September 2005 explosion at the same plant killed one worker and hospitalized 13 others.

A utility worker died after touching a live wire while on a pole off State Highway IL in northern Greenville County. Tim Oldham, 43, of Salem worked for Sumter Utilities. OSHA and the company investigate the incident.
