The city transfers its Strategic Plan Display Center and P A C T team office from the old Post Office to the Laurens Street Aiken Center for the Arts under a one year lease. City will pay $500 monthly, half of prior rent, with 2010 vision displays and officers relocated to the first floor.
In Newberry a Pickens woman Evelyn Breazeale remains in serious condition after a van driven by Samuel Perlite of Chicago crossed the median on Interstate 26 colliding head on with a car driven by her husband Harold Breazeale 74 and a Chicago woman died. The crash also involved an eastbound truck. In Columbia a Circuit Court judge Tom J. Ervin and Sen. Sam Stillwell entered candidacies for the Appeals Court vacancy following Randall Bell's death. In Greensboro four people including a South Carolina man were indicted for illegally trading in coyotes and foxes captured in Western states under the Lacey Act, with more than 100 live foxes allegedly transported and sold in three Southeastern states.

DOE Savannah River Site manager Dr. Mario Fiori announced a five year program to loan 50 computers and paramedic equipment to Aiken County schools. The pledge includes placing five computers in every high school and training teachers via Ruth Patrick Science Center at USC Aiken.
Donations to the Valley Empty Stocking fund reach 29,000 after a week with nearly 13,000 raised. Last year’s fund exceeded 31,000 and aided 295 families with children. Midland Valley High School students contributed 7,000 from car washes and events, part of the fund’s continuing support from local groups and individuals.
Gov elect Beasley rejected a plan to raise sales tax to cut property taxes and pursues his own approach. Spokesman Mark Chambers said details on funding the tax cut will follow. Sen. Passailaigue cautioned Beasley’s idea could be painful and unpopular, suggesting a zero-based budget as one option. A coalition plans a Thursday news conference with Secretary of State Miles to propose phasing out property taxes over three years.
