Flu uptick in Aiken County schools noted but operations safe
The Aiken County Public School District reports more influenza cases week before break but says no disruptions to classes. Nursing supervisor Germaine Purcell says few students were sent home and most schools had none or one flu case. Some cases confirmed by lab tests, others by clinical diagnosis. Health officials urge vaccination for all children six months and up and provide flu symptom guidance. Nearby, a McDuffie County Georgia elementary school closed after 100 plus students fell ill with flu plus strep and stomach bugs, leading to a district-wide closure.
