Obama hails climate breakthrough at Copenhagen summit
President Barack Obama called a five nation accord a meaningful breakthrough at the Copenhagen meeting, noting progress among the United States China Brazil India and South Africa toward emissions action though he warned a binding treaty remains elusive. He said full agreement would come with time and a final accord is possible at the closing hours. The deal requests five nations list actions pledged to cut heat trapping gases and to allow international verification of reductions. China has resisted a verification mechanism.
