Cornell researchers in the Flower Bulb Research Program advise forcing paper white bulbs to bloom without being tall and leggy by using a 4 to 6 percent alcohol solution in the water once the green shoot reaches 1 to 2 inches. Replace the water with alcohol solution and continue with future water. The tip comes from Linda Christine.
Hydrangeas should be pruned carefully after blooming to avoid losing next year's blossoms. Do not cut hardy varieties like Annabelle or Peegee in spring. cut back after flowering.
