An Aiken woman was lured by a Care.com contact claiming a month long babysitting job. She deposited a fraudulent $2,000 check, withdrew part of it, and had her account frozen after the source check was discovered counterfeit. Police warn of an online recruitment scam targeting babysitters.
Santa and Mrs. Claus halt in Aiken at the Visistors Center and Train Depot on Saturday. A 28 year old Beech Island man was detained for driving under the influence after striking a tree on South Boundary Avenue and failing sobriety tests. He faced an uninsured vehicle charge and marijuana possession after a leafy substance was found in the vehicle. Other reports include a phone theft at Aiken Mall, a no pay shoplift theft on Laurens Street, shoplifting by a 13 year old on Whiskey Road, several mall thefts, bicycle and scooter thefts, vehicle part thefts, vandalism at Eustis Park, broken windows on Richland Avenue, a burglary on Kershaw Street, a Laurens Street vehicle break-in, and multiple other thefts and incidents reported by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
