Investigators say Larry Ray Mahaffey 52 was in FBI custody after a call indicated his wife Kathy Mahaffey was taken from her car Thursday. Sheriff Taylor reported the call suggested the abduction, with the couple’s daughter confirming the father’s message.
Lonnie Harrison was dragged to the ground by two Rottweilers on a Greenville County path near an apartment complex. A witness reported the dogs biting and dragging her. bricks were used to stop them. Harrison was treated at St Francis Hospital and released.

Hopelands Gardens opened for Christmas in Hopelands drawing about 1500 visitors. The display includes 40000 lights, new scenes, a crafts show at ye Patch, plus the Doll House and Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum open nightly. Coordinator Michaela Berley expects to add 10000 more lights next year.
Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 set a plan for a single long term repository. Utilities paid about 11 billion into a federal fund, DOE used about 5 billion for research, yet no repository exists by 1990. SC Electric & Gas paid 185.5 million, Duke Power 550 million, Carolina Power and Light 278 million from SC customers.
Graniteville Aiken County EMS crew chief Al Gunter describes Charles White who charged into a burning home to save a smoke filled toddler before leaping out with his clothes on fire. White and Tracilla Pixley were taken to Augusta Burn Unit. White survived after six days in hospital while Tracilla’s recovery remains hopeful.
