A 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck off Mindanao's coast in the Philippines, with preliminary U S Geological Survey reports noting no immediate casualties or damage. The quake originated about 40 miles off Mindanao's northeast coast, roughly 560 miles southeast of Manila, 160 miles northeast of Davao.

NAACP Chief Says Buffalo Room Suit Still Proceeds
NAACP President James Gallman of Aiken County said the discrimination suit by six private citizens against Buffalo Room Restaurant owners Bruce and Rose Salter remains active.
