Mount Pleasant OKs district for sweetgrass basket makers
Mount Pleasant moves to create an overlay district allowing sweetgrass basket stands along Highway 17 with buffer rights of way, plus a new Charleston Harbor pavilion set to open in 2008. The plan includes stand size limits, safe access rules, and a joint effort with Charleston County. The town received a $14,000 arts grant for the pavilion, aiding basket weavers as development grows.
