At Gloverville Elementary School the Santa Store opens with a 5 foot model Santa greeting students. Students in grades 2-5 tour the shop selecting gifts from hundreds while parents and families benefit as proceeds return to the PTO. Toys ornaments and keepsakes are sold with wrap services available and items bought for family members.
E-5 Sgt. Gabriel Moyer of the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment spends two weeks in Aiken with family as part of a U S military R and R program. He served eight months in Iraq facing fierce resistance near Ar Ramadi where Staff Sgt. Frederick Miller was killed. Moyer plans to reenlist and return to duties, noting morale and the people he helps.
A fire in a dust collection unit at Hubbell Power Systems in Aiken prompted the evacuation of evening staff. Fire crews from the Aiken Department of Public Safety extinguished the blaze in about 30 minutes, with smoke and water damage limited to the area. plant operations expected to resume that evening.
