Sanford Eyes Milwaukee Voucher Model for South Carolina
Gov Mark Sanford visited Milwaukee to study its voucher and school choice program. About 15 000 Milwaukee students use $6000 vouchers for 120 private or parochial schools while 13 000 to 15 000 attend public charter schools and 90 000 attend traditional public schools. Supporters tout competition improving test scores and reducing dropouts, while opponents warn of underfunding public schools.
