Whales entangled near California coast amid warming ocean
Long Beach report describes a surge in whale entanglements along the California coast as a warm Pacific blob reshapes feeding patterns. More than 60 entanglements in 2024, mainly in crab gear, prompt collaboration among crab fishers, state and federal agencies, and SeaWorld volunteers to disentangle and protect the migratory mammals. Keith Yip of SeaWorld leads rescues, with ten disentanglements in two years and four calls in six weeks.
