In Columbia, South Pointe coach Stratt Herron previews the Class AAA championship as Midland Valley endures a season of misfortune. The Stallions stay unfazed, building a title bid from a senior laden core and a hopeful start that yielded few wins before rallying to reach the final.
Midland Valley 10-4 faces South Pointe 13-1 at Williams-Brice Stadium Columbia for the Class AAA state title at 3 p.m. Tickets cost 10 dollars and are available in the front office. Head coach Rick Knight recalls a season with close losses to North Augusta and Strom Thurmond.

Aiken County Council faces debates on relocating Syrian refugees with a candlelight vigil planned from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in front of the Government Building. David Matos leads the vigil opposing the anti refugee resolution while council also honors Ava Victor for a Disc Golf World Championship title.
Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt unveiled 2 year old detection dog Lannes named for Deputy Sgt. Jason Lannes Sheppard who died nine years ago directing traffic at an industrial fire on U.S. Highway 1. The ceremony at the Government Center also awarded a plaque to Sheppard’s widow Shelley Fulmer and mother Emily Brown as Lannes was introduced to the Canine Detection Unit.
