Highway officials seek financial consultant for I 73 project

South Carolina Transportation Department asks for a financial consultant to advise on Interstate 73 and toll projects with potential costs of 5200 per hour or more. An audit criticized the agency for consultant spend while lawmakers dispute the findings. The move follows a need for expertise in complex financial analysis for I 73. Funding would use congressional money for the project. Also, officials rejected a contract to widen US 17 near Gardens Corner due to cost, with 35 deaths since 1997 and a $256 million price tag.
