State Panel Rates SRP Safety High Marks
A state appointed advisory panel, the Governors Nuclear Advisory Council, visited Savannah River Plant SRP for an update on safety progress. The panel urged DOE to tighten contractor control and share more emergency information with state agencies while stressing public information and parallel reactor criteria with commercial industry. All SRP weapons reactors remain shut until spring for hardware and management upgrades. The panel formed in 1980, with members from academia, consulting and SRP, and has studied radon gas among other issues.
