Bobby Gladden a 38 year old Richburg man was arrested and charged with assault after stabbing his wife and leaving her for dead on a sidewalk. She survived after treatment at Springs Memorial Hospital and was discharged.

South Carolina's Strom Thurmond marks his 92nd birthday while eyeing a new term as president pro tempore. The GOP gained control of both chambers in the general elections, and Thurmond notes he will return to Washington in a leading role. Thurmond's wife Nancy plans a quiet staff party in Aiken.
A 24 year old Beech Island man, Robert Edwin Lee, died in a one car crash on US 1 near ward Aiken early Saturday at about 1 a.m. He veered off the road, hit the soft shoulder, and the car rolled twice. Lee, not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle and killed instantly according to County Coroner Sue R Townsend.
