December 1999 the New Ellenton Public Works Commission gave each member and six employees a 2500 Christmas bonus. In March 1999 commissioners voted to raise their salaries from 200 to 300 per month and again to 500 per month. After media requests for 1999 pay details the commission voted to provide employees 500 Christmas bonuses and cash bonuses of 100 to 200 depending on length of service.
