Washington AP reports researchers say aspirin, long used for headaches, may later aid pregnancy issues blood vessel constriction and disease prevention. The drug faces competition from acetaminophen yet shows renewed potential as science studies expand its applications.
WHO radio in Des Moines went off air briefly three times Tuesday to aid FCC investigations into a Cuban station intruding on its frequency. The broadcaster complied with a five to ten minute halt after each hour from 7 p.m. CST as officials traced the source. By about 9:30 p.m. the FCC canceled the stop requests after identifying the Cuban signal.
Forecast calls for clear skies and sunny days with highs near 60s and overnight lows around the 30s. The pattern holds through the week with mild temperatures and diminishing cloud cover.

A 1985 Equicor study shows average hospital charges rose 7.5 percent though mean patient stay fell from 6.6 to 6.4 days. Fixed costs and sicker patients drive higher bills, with more intensive care and outpatient shifts cited as factors.
President Reagan urged an independent counsel to investigate possible crimes in the Iran Contra affair. Reports link a Swiss bank account to money for Nicaraguan and Afghan rebels, with up to 30 million in profits from Iran arms sales.
HCA Aiken Regional Medical Center will continue to provide indigent care to the poor as the state fund ends in February. Marketing director Mike Kincaid says care will be provided as before with costs shifted to paying customers. The fund, established by the 1985 act, has seen about 2 million of 15 million allocated statewide used in Aiken County.
The South Carolina House endorsed a dress rule requiring women to wear dresses or skirts and men to wear ties in the chamber, with debate on a smoking ban rejected. Robert Sheheen was elected speaker and Jack Rogers speaker pro tempore as organizational sessions focused on rules and committee appointments.
