Administration announces 427 meth arrests in nationwide sweep
Police and the DEA led Operation Wildfire across more than 200 cities. Two arrests were in Pittsburgh where labs operated at an assisted living site and in Minneapolis a hotel lab near an elementary school was seized. Over 200 pounds of meth and 56 labs were identified. DEA chief Karen Tandy described the operation as a first but noted funding cuts proposed for local drug-fighting grants.
