Aiken County School Board approves property tax rollback

The Aiken County Board of Education voted to roll back millage for 2001 2002 from 107.8 to 96.1 mills while preserving about 200 million in revenue. The drop follows reassessment of real property, with Hadden noting the 11.7 mill decrease reflects higher property values. Homeowners with 75000 and 100000 values will see taxes fall from 140 to 119 and from 206 to 159 respectively. The board also approved grants for the McKinney Homeless Program and Opening Schoolhouse Doors, plus a Public Education Partners grant for five schools.
