Auditor orders plant padlocked over missing machinery

County auditors closed the Wintering Plant padlocked the facility and seeks answers about the disappearance of textile machinery claimed to be taxpayer assets or taxes owed. Jean Newsome says eight months of questions persist and requests details on environmental drum leaks and the fate of the plant’s gear amid tax liens totaling over 366 000 for 1989 90 and 1990 91.

Burnettown Wins 13790 Drug Grant For Police Gear

Burnettown Police Chief Aaron Norris says a governor’s grant of 13790 helps the town buy equipment. The town previously had only a car two uniforms and a revolver. now the department adds a handgun shotgun more ammo a bulletproof vest and a patrol car cage. The town will later buy a video recorder and drug testing kit with 75 percent state reimbursement. Burnettown about 2000 people sits on a drug trafficking corridor between Augusta Graniteville and Aiken and Norris notes the problem is growing as dealers move to outlying areas. Norris is the town’s sole officer and first certified through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

Bias Complaint Filed Against ATC Aiken Technical College

A racial discrimination complaint was filed against ATC by Eileen Menefee who alleges she was not hired as assistant dean due to her race. She contends Dr. Paul Blowers rejected her in April and again after a June interview, offering lesser counseling jobs instead.
