Egyptian ship auction ordered as crew remains stranded

U S District Judge David Norton ordered the 22 350 ton Edco to be auctioned on September 21 with bidding starting at 2 million. The sale funds will be held in security while an international lawsuit involving the Bidco sister ship proceeds. The ship and 29 crew have been stranded in Charleston for two months amid a dispute involving Grand Max Marine Ltd and Edco Chi after a contract with Edco Star was deemed unseaworthy. The crew cannot depart until replacement travel arrangements exist, and a hurricane could force costly ship movement if Charleston Harbor is blocked. Captain Mohammed Ellewan asked the Egyptian Embassy for help with pay and repatriation.
