A group of six quilting guild members rode in a van and went shopping until they dropped. Florida state authorities dropped nine felony charges against an Aiken man after evidence failed to show he acted without a license.

Kenneth A. Dixon, 40, of Warrenville, sought for threatening Aiken County Magistrate Judge Carl Insley, was located on Pine Log Road after a sheriff lure via answering machine. Deputies say Dixon threatened to “blow up the whole government” and imitate Timothy McVeigh, leading to a tense standoff and arrest.
Gov Mark Sanford attended the grand opening of Washington Energy Center in Aiken to showcase a high end engineering venture aimed at leveraging Savannah River Site expertise. The unit will recruit graduates from Georgia Tech Clemson and USC, starting with 15 staff and growing to about 120 by 2006.
The United Way of Aiken County kicked off the 2005 campaign with Division chairs, volunteers and events. Dee Stanford announced a 2.5 million goal, down from 2.62 million last year, citing economic strain yet confident in community support. Wesley Hollar captured the adult category title in the Aiken County Idol contest held Friday night at the Aiken Technical College gym. The event featured 21 acts with Miriam Moyer as host and Brigitte Flett presenting the awards.
