Public hearing planned on Southside comprehensive plan
The Southside portion of the city's comprehensive plan will be discussed at tonight's Aiken City Council meeting. A 130 page draft has undergone reviews by a citizen task force the Planning Commission and Council and will receive three readings including a public hearing on the second and third readings set for Sept 9. Also on the agenda is the second reading of a rezoning for the Fairfield Inn & Suites on Colony Parkway next to Holiday Inn Express. The 84 room hotel would cost about 4.8 million to develop once permits and site plans are approved. Council will review expanding the H.O Weeks tennis complex with four additional hard courts, raising the total to 12 courts, and possibly four more newly planned courts to help high school play. Cost estimates show a 285 000 addition for four extra hard courts, with potential savings if all hard courts are added. Council may delay, or choose two additional hard courts for 135 000 with future options. The meeting also includes the City’s Annual Report 2001 2002.
