Aiken repeals road fee after Supreme Court ruling
The Aiken City Council unanimously repealed the $20 road maintenance fee instituted in 2017 and will refund payments from July 2021 onward for motor vehicles with expiring tags. The move follows the June SC Supreme Court ruling that similar Greenville County ordinances were illegal taxes. The city seeks alternative funding for paving and repairs.
