The Agriculture Department reports strong harvests and more livestock to sell, with consumer food prices rising only about half as fast as last year. Retail prices are expected to climb 3 to 4 percent in the first half of 1977, then depend on crop outcomes and wider marketing spreads, especially for fish coffee and away-from-home meals.
President Ford will convene a first formal fall campaign strategy meeting with White House advisers and top campaign officials at his Rocky Mountain retreat in Vail Colorado. Sessions will occur daily at his rented home near Vail Mountain as he resumes travel to Washington this weekend.

Aiken TEC officials resolved an endangered red cockaded woodpecker obstacle to an expansion by relocating a road and adjusting grading angles.
