Bishops Try Talking To Leftist Guerrillas In Nicaragua
In Managua three Roman Catholic bishops attempted mediation with Sandinista guerrillas who seized the National Palace taking over 100 hostages. The raid left four soldiers dead and 15 injured, with captives including the president’s nephew and a deputy speaker. Security tightened as helicopters and guardsmen surrounded the palace.
