Nixon's Answers Do Not Satisfy Ervin
President Nixon faced the press on Watergate but Sen Sam Ervin remained unsatisfied. Ervin, chairing the Senate Watergate Committee, found Nixon's comments largely general and urged release of White House tapes to reveal Nixon’s knowledge of the burglary and cover up. He proposed cross examination as a path to truth and left noting he would ask further questions if Nixon testified.
